Calling all college students worldwide! The 2025 ‘Climate x’ Leadership Training Program is now accepting applications. Emergingclimate leaders are invited to apply by July 15, 2025 at https://climatexleadership.gauc.net.
Organized by the Global Alliance of Universities on Climate (GAUC) with strategic support from UNESCO and global partners, this transformative program equips youth with the knowledge, skills, and leadership tools to drive the transition toward a sustainable, carbon-neutral future.
The idea of ‘Climate x’
To raise awareness among the next generation about the interconnectedness of climate change and other UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), GAUC annually organizes the 'Climate x' Campaign, highlighting the most pressing contemporary topics. This year, drawing upon the distinguished academic resources of GAUC member institutions, the Training Program has assembled an international team of climate experts to deliver an outstanding interdisciplinary curriculum for aspiring climate leaders. The program focuses on four key areas: Global Climate Governance, Climate x Nature, Climate x Adaptation, and Youth Leadership Development.
1+N module structure
To empower students’ transition from learners of climate knowledge to leaders of climate actions, the training program adopted a ‘Train the Trainer’ approach through a ‘1+N’ module.
l “1” refers to 1 month of knowledge immersion within the module. In September, students will complete 9 online interactive sessions, enhance scientific ingenuity, deepen global governance understanding, and broaden international perspectives.
l “N” symbolizes the multiple self-organized events that enrolled students will complete from August to November to put their leadership skills and climate knowledge into practice.
Notably, the project will inspire students to align their individual efforts with the collective actions of the global youth in climate advocacy. By organizing an event during Global Youth Climate Week (2025.11.1-11.9), they will contribute the voice and momentum of the youth to the convening of the UNFCCC COP30.
Opportunity to Global College Students
In 2022, the inaugural training cultivated 100 students from GAUC member universities, many of whom are taking active roles representing the youth force in addressing climate issues. To broaden the opportunity for the next generation and equip more youth to take climate action, GAUC opened the training program to global college students in 2023. Till date, over 2000 students from 79 countries, 500 universities has participated in this program. More than 500 events hosted, impacting around 60,000 people worldwide.
Building on this strong foundation, the 2025 program will further enhance its curriculum by integrating climate education with key human development priorities while maintaining its emphasis on practical application. The program continues to welcome motivated young leaders from around the world. Participants who successfully complete the 1+N module requirements will earn a prestigious joint certification from GAUC and UNESCO. Apply to the program today! Dream Green. Act Now. Achieve Net-Zero in Our Generation.
